President's Message

Ann Riley, CP

Hello AAPi Members AND Visitors!

In July of 1982 a group of vision-minded paralegals got together and decided that in addition to being members of the National Association of Legal Assistants, (NALA), they wanted a local organization to further the education and training of paralegals throughout the state of Alabama. Thus, the Alabama Association of Legal Assistants, Inc., was born. The following years were vital to the furtherance of the paralegal profession as we know it today in the state of Alabama. Things have changed and the legal field has changed dramatically. In keeping with the changes, in August of 2003, by a majority vote, the name of the organization was changed to the Alabama Association of Paralegals, Inc. (AAPi).

I am so pleased you have decided to become a member of AAPi and I truly believe you will quickly realize the benefits of being a part of this exciting organization! However, much of what you will receive will depend greatly upon how much you give — in other words, the more involved you become, the greater the reward!

This year is going to be exceptional as we are celebrating a great milestone in the history of AAPi - we will be celebrating our 25th Anniversary! During the coming year there will be several "special events" sponsored throughout the state celebrating this significant event. We hope you will be able to be a part of all the excitement.

Along with these materials you will find a listing of your current Board members. This list is also posted on our webpage. As questions arise please feel free to call on your Board members to assist you. You will find them more than willing to assist in any way they can, or at least find someone who can assist you!

Be sure to mark you calendars rights now for our upcoming Winter Seminar which is being held in Birmingham February 9, 10 & 11th, 2007. Our Summer Seminar/Annual Meeting will be held August 10, 11 & 12th, 2007 at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach, AL. Also, be sure to check with your Region Director to find out when/where the monthly luncheons are being held so you can meet with fellow members and "stay in the loop."

Looking forward to working with you this year to continue to move our profession forward!

Sincerely,

Ann D. Riley, CP

President
